ONE: On a Personal Note
Hard Stuff: Cataract Surgery

Last month I wrote about hearing loss. This month, it's cataract surgery. As the saying goes, "Getting older is not for sissies!" While the surgery promises clearer vision, getting the left eye done wasn't nearly as easy as I'd imagined. The right has its turn this coming Monday.
Every challenge can teach us something and strengthen our resilience. Aging reminds us not to take our health or our senses for granted. If you're younger than me, consider this a gentle invitation: protect your hearing, care for your eyes, and appreciate the remarkable body you have. One day, you'll be grateful you did. ❤️🐞
Uplifting Stuff: Mentoring

My friend. Judy Arnall invited me to attend a Glenmore RSVP Toastmasters meeting.
After a warm welcome from the members and the meeting formalities, Judy was introduced as the evening speaker. What followed was beautifully meaningful. Judy spoke about mentorship and shared lessons she had learned from me over the years.
One of the unexpected gifts of aging is the opportunity to witness the results. Judy's accomplishments as a parent educator, author, speaker, and leader remind me that the support we offer others can continue with impact, even if we forget our contribution.
I just know there are older people with experience, wisdom and care who would be delighted to take a mentee under their wing. I also know there are many people beginning new careers or roles, who welcome having a wise guide. Both mentor and mentee benefit from the relationship. Just look at Judy's and my smiles.
My hope for you is that you have found, or will soon find, a mentor, a mentee, or, better yet, the privilege of being both. After all, we grow by learning from others and by sharing what we've learned.
In the meantime, I wish you continued resilience,
Patricia ❤️🐞
TWO: Resiliency Research
Parents' Mental Health Strongly Influences Children's Mental Health
A 2025 study using the nationally representative 2019 Canadian Health Survey on Children and Youth found one particularly striking result.
After accounting for many other factors, parents' own mental health was one of the strongest predictors of children's mental health. Parents reporting poor mental health were much more likely to report poor mental health in their children. Interestingly, among measures of positive interaction, laughing together remained significantly associated with better child mental health after adjustment for other factors.
THREE: Patricia’s Resiliency Blog/Articles
Tom Rath and Donald O. Clifton’s How Full Is Your Bucket? Positive Strategies for Work and Life was first published in 2004. Based on decades of Gallup research and the emerging field of positive psychology, it provides a compelling reminder that people thrive when they feel seen, heard, valued, and appreciated.

Family relationships are often described as unconditional, yet many adults find themselves in conversations where love, connection, and belonging appear conditional to meeting certain expectations. Family conflict and mental health challenges emerge.
Whether the conflict involves a holiday gathering, wedding, inheritance, caregiving, or long-standing family disagreements, emotional pressure can leave people feeling exhausted, confused, and emotionally drained.
One of the most challenging experiences in family relationships occurs when connection feels. . . CLICK HERE.
