Hard Stuff
At the risk of whining! This Hard Stuff is more like Frustrating Stuff. 🙂
My self-talk has been a tad off lately. It seems the good old days of easily selling books has changed. For my latest publication Return to Center. I spent over three years learning and testing nervous system management strategies, and writing. That was followed by thousands of dollars spent on 18 revisions with my editor, page formatting, cover design. printing, and a book launch.
I’ve gone to a several non-profit agencies to present for no-fee and sold from zero to a bit more. It’s exhausting to give up my day for $20.
Regardless of Return to Center garnering the 2024 Canadian Counselling Book Award, sales have been a struggle. So, I watch my self-talk. “Maybe it’s not as helpful as I told myself.” or “Maybe you should spend more money marketing.” “Maybe you should give it away.” “You should have known fewer people now buy books. They use the internet.” The shoulds piled with doubting thoughts and feelings of frustration and disappointment increased.

Uplifting Stuff
On the other hand, I value my gift of creativity and eagerness to demonstrate helpfulness. Consequently, I’m developing a Return to Center companion workbook, which I want ready for upcoming speaking engagements; one this month in Edmonton for the Alberta Literacy and Lifetime Long Learning Association, the Airdrie Seniors’ Day event, the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association conference, and others.
When we use our strengths, we are in the zone, time flies, and we feel energized. That is true for me. If you aren’t clear about your gifts, your strengths, consider taking the free VIA Character Strengths Inventory. If you do treat yourself to the questionnaire, I would enjoy hearing from you what your top five strengths are. OK?
In the meantime, here’s to your continued resilience,
Patricia ❤️🐞
