One: On a Personal Note

Hard Stuff

This month a respected and loved Canadian couple therapist, with whom I had taken training, Dr. Sue Johnson died of melanoma. I was particularly taken aback by the fact that Johnson was a year younger than me. Please see my summary of her insightful book, “Hold Me Tight” below.

At the end of February, I had breast cancer surgery and the scars are now well healed. Since then, for prevention of return, although I have decided to skip chemotherapy, will eventually receive radiation therapy, and have started a hormone drug. Some days, I’m a tad tire but feel content to have no serious side effects.

Please keep up with your medical check ups. Ok?

Uplifting Stuff

Family and friends gathered for a “I Decided” (re cancer prevention treatment) and book award party featuring baked potatoes. Les and I provided the baked potatoes and guests brought delicious toppings. It was a lovely gathering.

Earlier this month, I heard from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (just under 15,000 members) that “Return to Center; Simple Strategies to Navigate Distress, Depression and Disconnection”, was chosen to receive the 2024 counselling book award. YEAH!!! At the end of the month I will be in Prince Edward Island to accept the prize.

Please help: This past week a supportive friend purchased “Return to Center”, wrote an Amazon review, and emailed me this message, “Be bold young lady!!! Tap into your large community and ask!!” So I am asking:

  • If you purchased “Return to Center” on Amazon, please return and write a review.

  • If you purchased “Return to Center” directly from me and have an Amazon account, please write a review.

  • If you are interested in purchasing a copy of “Return to Center” (less than $10 for the ebook) on Amazon, please write a review.

  • . . . and consider inviting your family and friends to do likewise.

Click here on Amazon.ca to learn more. I send appreciation for your consideration and wish you the ability to return to center.

Here’s to your continued resilience!

Four: Opportunities with Patricia

11am – Noon MT, Monday, May 28, 2024 (online)

“You are not lazy, unmotivated, or stuck. After years of living your life in survival mode, you are exhausted. There is a difference.” Nakeia Homer, self-love author

If, in our childhood we did not get our physical and emotional needs met, we developed effective coping strategies for back then. Those patterns helped us survive!

However, in our adult years they may no longer service us. We may be inappropriately triggered into an emotionally dysregulated state, which then pulls us into angry outbursts, anxiety, defending, fleeing out the door, becoming silent or invisible, collapsing, or shutting down. Years of being dysregulated can lead to mental, emotional, relational, and physical health problems.

This session is for you if you suspect you have challenges rooted in unresolved childhood trauma or you are concerned about a loved one. Leave the session with:
1. An understanding of childhood trauma.
2. A sense of events, conditions, and situations than can infuse childhood trauma.
3. Signs that you are, or a loved one is, living with childhood trauma.
4. First steps to healing.
