One: On a Personal Note
Hard Stuff:
Several of my counselling clients requested an all encompassing receipt for their 2023 payments. Goodness, I procrastinated and procrastinated some more. I know what procrastination means. It tells me I lack motivation to do a task I dislike and not in my comfort or strength zone. In this case it tells me my zen place is not working with figures and numbers.
So I had a conversation with myself about the distress I was creating by not doing a priority task. With my Wise Adult Self panties pulled up I told myself, “You are a capable, responsible seniorpreneur. You can delegate the task to someone else, pay for it to be done, or do it yourself. Regardless, how it is completed I promise you will feel relieved and proud.” I chose to do the task myself and guess what? Once I made the first micro-step it went well . . . and yes, I felt relieved and proud of my accomplishment.
So, when was the last time you had a good chat with yourself to move beyond procrastination to complete a job you dislike or make an important decision, or have a difficult conversation? ❤️🐞
Uplifting Stuff:
To bring in the New Year I tried to create a meaningful-to-me and to you, message and rhyme. It didn't hit the mark. So I asked AI to help. It still did not hit the mark. Then I asked my dear husband, Les Morgan to help and here it is! What do you think? Do you have a verse to add?
Six months ago a Return to Center reader experienced a tragic event. Then, last week, I was heartened to receive this message, “There are so many things that trigger my emotions! Loved your book! . . . I have implemented many of the strategies! I especially use the one . . . ”
I thought of the philosopher, Hillel’s quotation, “If I am not for me, who will be? If I am not for others, what is the point?” I feel full to have ‘a point’.
Based on insights from the Polyvagal Theory, Return to Center:
