Hard Stuff
Gabor Maté, the renowned Canadian physician and author, known for his work in addiction, stress, and the mind-body connection wrote in his book, When the Body Says No, “The research literature has identified three factors that universally lead to stress: uncertainty, lack of information, and loss of control.”
Well! Right now I am experiencing uncertainty, lack of information, and loss of control. At least my situation will change next week when Les and I meet with an oncologist to discuss recommended post-surgery treatments — radiation, hormones, chemotherapy or a combo. Waiting is hard.
Have you noticed your ability to deal with these distress factors and waiting for a pleasurable change?
ONE WAITING OPTION: Thank you to my Canadian Association of Professional Speakers, Alberta Chapter community for gifting me with a Leela Spa gift certificate. ❤️🐞

PLEASED with TIME INVESTED and THE LEARNING
It was a slug of a read but so rewarding—wise, intelligent, and research rich! I completed Gabor Mate’s, “The Myth of Normal”. I’ve taken online courses with Mate’ and read his other books but this publication truly facilitated waking up to our current cultural misconceptions about mental health, while providing some hopeful solutions.
Mate’ himself inspires me. At age 80 he remains steadfast in contributing to a saner and healthier world. I hope you not only read my book summary but watch some video recording to capture the thoughtfulness of this treasured Canadian. (see resources with links below)
Here’s to your continued resilience!

In this publication, he challenges our usual take-it-for-granted perspectives about what we settle on as 'normal', particularly regarding mental health. Be forewarned, at 567 pages, it is a dense read filled with stories, insightful quotations, research references, and lists of academic sources. However, it is beautifully and courageously written, and . . . CLICK HERE
The motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, once said, “People often say that motivation does ’t last. Well, neither does bathing—that’s why we recommend it daily.” The same philosophy holds true for listening, whether in intimate, family, or working-relationship interactions. Repeatedly, attending to your relationship communication by attentive listening is. . . CLICK HERE
