Your September Uplift

In-joy the read & viewing!

On a Personal Note

Hard stuff:

A family member’s son died by suicide and the ripple effect was felt my many of us, including me. It’s a complicated situation when the only solution to a problem is perceived as ending not only life’s pain, but possible joy.

I was moved to register for a 2 day suicide education program. The basics still hold true if you know someone who is in a distressed and hopeless state:

  1. Know the phone number of your local crisis line.

  2. Listen for warning signs such as isolation, seeing no life purpose or talking about being a burden to others, and pay attention to significant changed behavior such as increase in use of alcohol or other substances, anger or other mood swings.

  3. Listen, get curious and ask, “Are you thinking about ending your life?” Yes, actually ask.

  4. Express concern, care, and, if appropriate, love.

  5. If possible find out what the real or root problem is. Knowing that will allow exploration of a safe solution.

  6. Connect your person to the local crisis line, family doctor or helping professional.

Take a deep breath and tell yourself, “I did the best I can.”

Uplifting Stuff:

One: Last week I spent a couple of hours in High River with the women of Narrow Road Home: Addiction Treatment and Recovery Home. It was heart-warming to witness their commitment to a not-easy healing journey. We explored the concepts in Return to Center.
Note: I seek more opportunities to workshop the book, should you know of groups that would benefit. Please let me know. Ok?

Two: I felt well supported when Maureen Y. Nowicki, of Beacon Community Services, posted a Facebook endorsement:

“Such a digestible, clear, and practical read… Return to Center features such a clear explanation of the vagus nerve and helpful hints on stress management. You even receive a data card with your purchase to explore your own nervous system signals. If you coach, work with clients, or want an excellent resource in exploring your own self-healing, I would recommend adding this to your repertoire.”

Patricia’s Blog Articles

For years I have said, “Please spread positive gossip!” I like the idea of people spreading good news about other people. It’s a lovely idea to celebrate the role models and the ordinary heroes in our circle. But there is a shadow side to spreading the word about others. It’s about nasty rumours spread by the vehicle of gossip.

Actually the word, gossip classically indicates lies about others. The Oxford Dictionary defines gossip as . . . READ MORE.

Let’s start with a fundamental inquiry: What is the essence of Return to Center? In essence, it signifies those moments when we lose touch with ourselves, giving into either a fight, defend, or flee response, or slipping into a state of surrender, depression, or utter collapse. Alternatively, we might find ourselves resorting to fawning, whereby we excessively please others in a bid for attention and emotional safety. However, the ultimate goal is to recover and return to a serene and calm . . . READ MORE.
